Everyone knows that fantasy football championships are won on the waiver wire so we try to give you the top picks.

Waiver Wire Pickups Week 8

Here are 5 Astute Waiver Wire Pick-Ups for Week 8 from FantasyFootballBlitz.com

QB Christian Ponder, Vikings:  It was only one week, but he played pretty well against a good team.  This week he goes up against the league's worst pass defense.  He'll do if you don't have options, even better if it's a keeper league.

RB Pierre Thomas, Saints:  Did you see what DeMarco Murray did to the Rams Defense last week?  With Mark Ingram banged up, Pierre Thomas can be a sneaky good start.  Even if Ingram plays, there should be enough to go around for more than one back against this "D."

RB Bernard Scott, Bengals:   Scott should have good numbers this week as the starter for Cincinatti.  True, it's only a one week gig for Scott, as Cedric Benson's suspension is only that long, but if you need a guy this week Scott is your man.

WR Antonio Brown, Steelers:  Last week, both Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown surpassed the hundred yard mark for Pittsburgh.  Brown is now the number 2 guy for the Steelers, as Hines Ward is more of a possesion receiver now.  The Steelers will have to pass early and often against New England on Sunday.  This and a generous Patriots defense makes Brown a good play.

RB Kregg Lumpkin, Buccaneers:  Lumpkin has not done anything yet to warrant picking him up.  This one is a hunch.  After Earnest Graham landed on IR this week, Lumpkin is the only RB in Tampa behind LeGarrette Blount, who is recovering from a knee injury.  Before long, Kregg Lumpkin could be starting in Tampa.

Week 3 Pickups

Week 3 is upon us and the injury bug has been real busy. Surely you're looking over the waiver wire for some help. Now that two weeks are in the books there are some trends to look at.

Quarterbacks:

Jason Campbell - Pickings are likely pretty slim unless you're in a 10 team league. Last week Campbell showed he could be dynamic even with limited weapons. If you're struggling with a QB like Eli or Matt Cassel Campbell may be an option to look at.

Matt Hasselbeck - Kenny Britt is very happy Hasselbeck came along. There is definite upside for Hasselbeck but he is still  work in progress.

Rex Grossman - Most likely Sexy Rex was picked up last week, hence the third listing here. If Grossman is available he should be the top pick.

Running Back:

Roy Helu - Sure Hightower has looked good so far but Coach Shanahan likes to use more than one RB and Helu got some chances in week 2. Helu is a speedy rookie that will see more action and could be a valuable flex.

Thomas Jones - There will be a line waiting to pick up Jones now that Jamaal Charles is lost for the year. Even though Jones will split time with Dexter McCluster he will have some value.

Dexter McCluster - The Chiefs will look to use the speedster in any way possible. Thomas Jones is less of a gamble but McCluster could pay off.

LaRon McClain - Remember when McClain came out of no where to be a fantasy monster? He may have the chance to repeat but he is the biggest gamble right row.

Wide Receiver

Eric Decker - Last week Decker got the chance to shine when Brandon Lloyd unexpectedly pulled out of the game. Decker has more value since Eddie Royal pulled a groin in week 2. in 2 weeks Decker has been targeted 14 times pulling in 8.

Denarius Moore - Is it possible the Raiders have finally hit on a speedy WR? With all 3 WRs in front of him sidelined, Moore got his chance to start. Although Moore looks like a solid WR he is a bit of a gamble and worth a pick if you're looking for depth not replacement.

David Nelson - Not the sexy pick for sure but Nelson has the goods to be a solid WR. 19 targets and 14 receptions make him a solid WR 3. Nelson also has upside since Stevie Johnson was injured in week 2.

Tight End

Fred Davis - With Rex Grossman at the helm Davis has been a stud TE. Even though Chris Cooley is playing Davis is the top option at this position.

Scott Chandler - I'm sure that Chandler is a flash in the plan but with 3 TDs in 2 weeks he is definitely worth a shot.

Kickers

John Kasay - 5 FGAs and a long of 53 yards. It's good to be the Saints kicker.

David Akers - Last year Akers was not great for the Eagles but this year he looks great.

Waiver Wire Pickup: Jordy Nelson

Jordy Nelson - Although Nelson is a #3 WR for the Packers and I don't usually subscribe to using these players Nelson was targeted 8 times in week 1. Nelson looks to be a viable flex option with upward potential.

Week 2 Pickups

The Pickup Joint

The waiver wire plays will begin shortly and eveyone will be putting in for Cam Newton. But week 1 has a few other gems that you may be able to add to your team.

QB

Cam Newton – Without a doubt the best debut for a rookie skill position I can remember. Newton is worth adding for now and may make the lineup soon.

Ryan Fitzpatrick – The Bills have an offense without Lee Evans. Fitzpatrick played a great game in a tough stadium and posted a W. Fitzpatrick should be on your roster and is a great change if you have Peyton Manning/Kerry Collins or Donovan McNabb.

Colt McCoy – The second year QB is settling in and could be a bye week fill in.

RB

Cadillac Williams – With Steven Jackson suffering a quad injury on his only run Williams took the bulk of the workload and was pretty productive. Keep in mind the Eagles are always terrible against the run so that could be a factor. With Bradford also injured Williams' value is suspect.

James Starks – Although Starks is splitting time with Ryan Grant it will not be long before he is anointed the #1 RB job.

WR

Devery Henderson – With the injury to Marques Colsten Henderson moves into a starting position. Henderson has increased value while Lance Moore gets up to speed as well. Generally there are too many options on New Orleans to pick 1 but now is the time to ride it.

Robert Meachum – See Henderson, same applies.

Jordy Nelson – Sure he's the #3 WR but Nelson was targeted 8 times in week 1. The kid has upside.

Jabar Gaffney – It's hard to imagine recommending a WR for the Redskins but Gaffney was targeted 7 times catching 3 for 54 yards and a TD.

Doug Baldwin – This is a low expectation pick here but someone has to catch pass in Seattle. Baldwin was targeted 6 times catching 4 for 83 and a TD.

Brandon LaFell – You can count on 3 things; Death, Taxes, and the Panthers looking for a #2 WR. LaFell caught 4 of 5 passes for 70 yards.

TE

Fred Davis – Chris Cooley did play but Davis was prolific against an injury riddled Giants D. Davis racked up 105 yards on 5 catches.

Ed Dickson – Dickson was targeted a bunch in the preseason and I knew someone had to replace Todd Heap. Dickson caught all 5 balls thrown his way for 59 yards and a TD.

Scott Chandler – I know everyone is going to want this kid but I seriously do not think he will be a stable option. That being said Chandler did catch all 5 passes for 63 yards and 2 TDs.

K

David Akers – When was the last time Akers hit 4 FGs? It looks like he may be the 49ers best weapon.

Robbie Gould – Gould was gold hitting all 3 Fgs.

Nick Folk – Accuracy not a problem and Folk hit a 50 yarder for the win.

DST

49ers – With Ted Ginn Jr returning kicks the 49ers D is worth a shot. Obviously it won't happen every week.

Any DST playing the Colts.

Waiver Wire Pickup: Devery Henderson

Devery Henderson - With Lance Moore nursing a groin injury and Marques Colsten out with a broken collarbone Henderson joins Robert Meachum as a starting WR for the prolific air assault of the Saints. Henderson is a low end #2 WR.
