The Pickup Joint
The waiver wire plays will begin shortly and eveyone will be putting in for Cam Newton. But week 1 has a few other gems that you may be able to add to your team.
QB
Cam Newton – Without a doubt the best debut for a rookie skill position I can remember. Newton is worth adding for now and may make the lineup soon.
Ryan Fitzpatrick – The Bills have an offense without Lee Evans. Fitzpatrick played a great game in a tough stadium and posted a W. Fitzpatrick should be on your roster and is a great change if you have Peyton Manning/Kerry Collins or Donovan McNabb.
Colt McCoy – The second year QB is settling in and could be a bye week fill in.
RB
Cadillac Williams – With Steven Jackson suffering a quad injury on his only run Williams took the bulk of the workload and was pretty productive. Keep in mind the Eagles are always terrible against the run so that could be a factor. With Bradford also injured Williams' value is suspect.
James Starks – Although Starks is splitting time with Ryan Grant it will not be long before he is anointed the #1 RB job.
WR
Devery Henderson – With the injury to Marques Colsten Henderson moves into a starting position. Henderson has increased value while Lance Moore gets up to speed as well. Generally there are too many options on New Orleans to pick 1 but now is the time to ride it.
Robert Meachum – See Henderson, same applies.
Jordy Nelson – Sure he's the #3 WR but Nelson was targeted 8 times in week 1. The kid has upside.
Jabar Gaffney – It's hard to imagine recommending a WR for the Redskins but Gaffney was targeted 7 times catching 3 for 54 yards and a TD.
Doug Baldwin – This is a low expectation pick here but someone has to catch pass in Seattle. Baldwin was targeted 6 times catching 4 for 83 and a TD.
Brandon LaFell – You can count on 3 things; Death, Taxes, and the Panthers looking for a #2 WR. LaFell caught 4 of 5 passes for 70 yards.
TE
Fred Davis – Chris Cooley did play but Davis was prolific against an injury riddled Giants D. Davis racked up 105 yards on 5 catches.
Ed Dickson – Dickson was targeted a bunch in the preseason and I knew someone had to replace Todd Heap. Dickson caught all 5 balls thrown his way for 59 yards and a TD.
Scott Chandler – I know everyone is going to want this kid but I seriously do not think he will be a stable option. That being said Chandler did catch all 5 passes for 63 yards and 2 TDs.
K
David Akers – When was the last time Akers hit 4 FGs? It looks like he may be the 49ers best weapon.
Robbie Gould – Gould was gold hitting all 3 Fgs.
Nick Folk – Accuracy not a problem and Folk hit a 50 yarder for the win.
DST
49ers – With Ted Ginn Jr returning kicks the 49ers D is worth a shot. Obviously it won't happen every week.
Any DST playing the Colts.
